v. Change Management Workshop
Change is critical element in any major project or programme. But despite the importance of attending to the human dimensions of change, methodologies and project managers alike, often fail to address them fully enough. All projects lead to shifts in organisations, be it power, market position, structure of people’s roles and responsibilities. Therefore any project should expect turbulence, resistance and politics. Each of these reactions lead to change and the project needs to address them. Hiding behind methods, tools and process will not lead to lasting change nor will it help the project manager deal with the change related issues on their projects.
Description
Success in projects requires the project manager to embrace the fundamental dimensions of change namely:
Power
Politics
Resistance to change.
And, in responding to these, the project manager needs to understand the following:
The dynamics of change
How to influence and manage stakeholders
The culture of the organisation in which they are delivering their projects (which will affect how change has to be managed).
